Sunfire secures €109M funding; Enapter wins Earthshot prize

Sunfire has secured € 109 million (US$ 125 million) of new funding in its Series D round from a consortium of investors, which would strengthen its position in green hydrogen technologies.

Lightrock and Planet First Partners led the round with investors included Carbon Direct Capital Management, HydrogenOne Capital, and existing shareholders.

The funds will help Sunfire bring its advanced pressurised alkaline and game-changing solid oxide (SOEC) electrolysis technologies to an industrial scale, building the first in a series of production gigafactories, creating meaningful electrolysis capacity for our customers and attractive returns for our investors.

Sunfire has recently announced plans to scale its alkaline electrolysis business, building a large-scale electrolyser production site in Germany with an annual production capacity of 500 MW by 2023 and a further extension to gigawatt-scale already in planning.

Enapter AEM electrolyser has won the Earthshot Prize under the Fix Our Climate category.  The Earthshot Prize, started by Prince William and The Royal Foundation, aims to mobilise collective action around humanity’s unique ability to innovate, problem-solve and repair the planet. The AEM Electrolysers are compact modules and can be combined to produce green hydrogen at any scale. Enpater aims to achieve mass-production and has launched construction of the Enapter Campus in Germany which would produce 10k green hydrogen generators per month by 2023. The £1 million prize money will be used in the Enapter Campus mass production facility and R&D.
