Germany and UAE establish a new hydrogen task force

Germany and the UAE today (2nd November) has signed a memorandum of understanding in Dubai for the establishment of the Emirati-German Task Force on Hydrogen and Synthetic Fuels.

The aim is to deepen cooperation between the two countries in the field of green hydrogen. The task force’s work under the German-Emirati Energy Partnership is supported by the German-Emirati Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AHK) in Abu Dhabi and Guidehouse.

A high-level steering group will lead the new HydrogenTask Force. The focus is on implementing concrete projects and achieving a common understanding of the necessary framework conditions for the development and scaling of green hydrogen production.

To achieve its objectives, the Task Force will meet quarterly to:

Andreas Feicht, State Secretary BMWi, said, “The United Arab Emirates has great potential for renewable energies and is, therefore, a very good partner for cooperation in the field of hydrogen and hydrogen technologies.”

German and Emirati companies are already working closely together on several hydrogen projects in the UAE. The first green electrolyser pilot project in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region was inaugurated in May 2021 in Dubai jointly by Siemens Energy and the Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (DEWA).
